"A shepherdess on horseback with her flock at the edge of a forest", this Impressionist painting, in the style of the Nazarene school, was executed by Alexandre Marie Longuet (1810-1851), a renowned French painter specializing in historical, genre and landscape scenes. Influenced by V.N. Diaz de la Peña, the artist worked in Paris, where he exhibited at the Salon from 1831 to 1850, presenting historical and genre scenes, landscapes and nudes. His works are in the Musée de Narbonne ("Pastorale"), the Musée de Montpellier ("Baigneuse"), the Musée de Mühlhausen ("Baigneuse") and the Musée de Toulon.
