Sèvres Porcelain Cup From The Empire Period, Decorated With Volubilis On A Nankin Background.
Porcelain cup and saucer from the Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres dated 1811
Brown volubilis decoration on a nankin background and gilded friezes.
This decoration, very popular under the Empire and the 1st Restoration, was the subject of orders for services for the Emperor, for Louis XVIII and for other major state figures.
In December 1814, for example, Louis XVIII received a "fond nankin volubilis" appetizer and dessert service, which had entered the Sèvres sales store on May 9, 1810, and was delivered by His Excellency the Duc de Blacas, Minister of the King's Household.
"Nankin" is originally a cotton fabric made in China in the City of Nanking, with a yellow-beige color. Nankin pants were particularly fashionable in the early 19th century.
Stamp marks in red "M. Imple de Sevres 1811.", date in gold "18 Ji", painter's mark Apprien-Julien Hirel de Choisy (before 1770 - after 1812).
Good overall condition, wear to gilding.
