Procession For The Jubilee Of Seven Hundred Years Of Saint Macaire In 1767 - Etching 18th Century

Procession board for the Jubilee of seven hundred years De S. Macaire, particular patron against the Plague in 1767.

&c. which will take place on this occasion." published in Ghent, by Jean Meyer, printer of the city, on the High Gate, under the sign of the Royal Sword, (1767).

The plates were etched by Ignatius Lieven Wauters and one by Hejilbrouck after a drawing by Emanuel van Reysschoot.

They present and accompany texts on the spectacular celebrations organized by the Jesuits and Augustinians to honor the 700th anniversary of Saint Macaire, patron saint of Ghent and protector of the plague-stricken, archbishop of Antioch who came to Ghent and died of the plague in 1012.
The processions feature magnificent floats and triumphal arches, decorated with rich oriental ornaments. They depict ships, unicorns, crocodiles, winged dragons, dromedaries, swans, peacocks, lions, phoenixes, rhinoceroses and elephants.

Bends, foxing, small tears in margins.
Modern framing.
