Christofle Dish From Emperor Napoleon III's Service, Engraved With The Imperial Coat Of Arms

Rare table bowl or fruit bowl from the service of Emperor Napoleon III
Crafted by Christofle, engraved with the Grand Imperial Coat of Arms. 

A glass or pressed-glass bowl resting on a putto-shaped mount adorned with garlands of roses, set on a tripod base with acanthus leaves. 

Christofle had enjoyed the sovereign’s trust since the reign of Louis-Philippe, who initiated major commissions for table services for his residences, and Napoleon III reaffirmed this trust upon his accession to power in 1852 with the commission of the enormous 4,000-piece service for one hundred people that adorned the Tuileries Palace, which would later be destroyed in the fire during the Paris Commune. 
The large central centerpiece has been preserved and is on display in its original condition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. 
Government ministries and embassies also received commissions from the Emperor to furnish their tables with Christofle tableware, most of which was engraved with a personalized monogram for each under the imperial crown. 

Many pieces from these sets, similar to this one, are now preserved in the collections of the Louvre Museum, serving as true testaments to the tableware and sculpture of the Second Empire, as well as to the dominant industrial production of the era.
