Louis Philippe Period Mahogany Bergère Gondole, Chauffeuse, Circa 1830
Charming little mahogany gondola bergère from the Louis Philippe period ,circa 1830-1840
The arm supports, as well as the four legs, are solid mahogany. The base is concealed by a wide frieze of old gold passementerie.
The front legs are finished with scroll work.
The floral patterned upholstery fabric is original. It is still in fairly good condition, but of course shows some wear and tear, and is sometimes a little shiny.
One of the rear legs has undergone an old restoration ( see photo 11), restoring stability and perfect solidity to the seat.
This bergère is very comfortable, and the backrest is quite enveloping.
The seat is in good condition, in fact a re-adjustment was carried out very recently.
Charming seat, not very bulky and naturally inviting to relaxation.
