African Mask "fang" 20 Th Century
Large, highly decorative mask from Central Africa, part of an ancient FANG tradition: the "Ngil". The purpose of this judicial society was to seek out and put an end to Beyem sorcerers charged with evil spirits. The Ngil was an oblong mask made of exotic wood (often cheese) and bleached with kaolin. The face, with its huge forehead, long nose and slit eyes, plays on proportions that give it a frightening quality when it appears at night. This mask is missing the lower jaw. Protection, postage and insurance costs by Colissimo suivi are €50 for France and €60 for the European Union. For the rest of the world, please contact me.
