The life of Blanche Odin:
Blanche was born in Troyes in 1865. In 1876, she and her mother moved from northern France to Maubourguet in the Hautes-Pyrénées. She regularly visited the spa in Bagnères-de-Bigorre. Every year, she left for a few months to take painting lessons in Paris. She became a pupil of Madelaine Lemaire. When she returned to Maubourguet, she gave watercolor lessons. In 1900, she opened a studio in Paris and became a successful artist. Her work was shown at the Exposition Universelle and she exhibited and sold watercolors at the Salon des Femmes painters. Flowers gradually became the central theme of her painting. Initially, the background of her watercolors had floral fabric hangings or draped curtains, bouquets blossom in a variety of models. blossom in different models of transparent vase, made of earthenware or Chinese porcelain. The flowers are brilliant, the artist's mastering water and color. As the years went by, her palette became more vivid and more modern. From 1934 to the end of her life, she painted on a neutral background, where the flowers appear even more vibrant. The rag grain of the paper creates a powdery sensation created by the superimposition of pigments and water. She settles permanently at 6 rue Gambetta in Bagnères-de-Bigorre in 1934, while continuing to exhibit at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris. From 1934 to 1957, the year of her death Bagnérais, spa-goers and tourists remembered this little lady who painted in front of her window, rue Gambetta......Blanche Odin has left an abundant work of pretty bouquets of flowers reflecting her talent as a watercolorist, as well as a number of landscapes, mainly of the Pyrenees, always in watercolor.
