Władimir de TERLIKOWSKI (Poraj 1873 – Paris 1951) “Bouquet of roses” Oil on canvas signed lower right and dated 1924 91.5 cm x 60 cm Wladimir de Terlikowski (Włodzimierz Terlikowski) was a Polish painter, born on April 24, 1873 in Poraj (then in the Piotrków government of the Russian Empire) and died in the 14th arrondissement of Paris on February 2, 1951. The artist's training was influenced by numerous travels, in England, Spain, France and Italy, but also in India, Australia, New Zealand and North Africa. He studied in Munich and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Jean-Paul Laurens. In 1911, he settled permanently in Paris, becoming a prominent figure in the Polish art colony on the Seine. The artist's works enjoyed considerable success at the time. They were exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions, particularly at the prestigious Galerie Bernheim-Jeune in Paris, as well as in group exhibitions in France, Italy, Belgium, and Poland. Terlikowski's paintings are characterized by strong, saturated colors and a thick texture applied with a palette knife. He painted landscapes, portraits, and still lifes, which dominated his oeuvre. The artist's works are held in numerous public collections in France and in Poland.
