Large Famille Rose Porcelain Jardinière. China, Early 18th Century.
Artist: Jingdezhen
In lathe-mounted hard porcelain, the planter is decorated with Phoenix and peonies in a garden, among other flowers and plants surrounding a rock. Meticulously painted in the famille rose style. The very rich decoration, the gadrooned form and the large size make this planter an exceptional object. We believe it was made in the early 18th century for an important European patron. The drain hole is original. A few firing defects, with glaze jumps and a long crack that was repaired at the time by iron claws, which have now disappeared. Width: 405mm Height: 200mm.
