Coffee Table In Precious Wood. China, Ming Style, Early 20th Century.
Small coffee table in warm orange hardwood. Beautiful, solid cabinetwork. The table is a replica of a Ming model, and the cabinetmaker has gone into great detail, making the tenons protrude on the sides, making them visible as was customary in the 17th century. The wood appears to be Hualy, as it has the same color and texture. During the 1930s, Chinese cabinetmakers, notably in Shanghai, created identical replicas of the prestigious furniture of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This table is a fine example of this production.
