The Archer, Bronze 1900 By Ludwig Graefner
Elegant bronze with a brown patina shaded with green highlights, depicting a young nude archer in a dynamic attitude inspired by classical antiquity.
This sculpture is signed Graefner on the terrace and can be attributed to Ludwig Graefner, a German sculptor active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The artist has skilfully translated the tension of the moment preceding the shot. The position of the legs, the extension of the arm holding the bow and the twisting of the torso give the whole a particularly successful movement. The treatment of the face and anatomy testifies to the influence of antique sculpture, much appreciated in German art of this period.
Beautiful antique cast with a pleasant golden-brown patina with slight antique green highlights.
The bow has retained its original shape, but the string is now missing.
The sculpture rests on an elegant Grand Antique de Saint-Girons marble base, which perfectly enhances the finesse of the model. A few very slight chips are to be noted on the marble.
A charming sculpture.
A charming decorative cabinet sculpture, representative of the neoclassical taste of the 1900s.
