Bust Of Marie-antoinette In White Earthenware - First Half Of The 20th Century
Elegant white earthenware bust of Queen Marie Antoinette, inspired by 18th-century models, and made in the first half of the 20th century.
The sovereign is depicted in bust, turned slightly to the right, her face delicate and idealized. She sports a high hairstyle typical of the late Ancien Régime, embellished with curls falling to the nape of her neck. The treatment of the drape, supple and ample, emphasizes a bare shoulder in a neoclassical spirit.
The modeling quality is remarkable, with a smooth, luminous rendering characteristic of glazed earthenware. The surface has a beautiful sheen, with no noticeable alterations, making it a decorative piece of fine presence.
Resting on a square pedestal, this decorative bust is in the tradition of early 20th-century historicist reproductions, very much in vogue for bourgeois interiors and curiosity cabinets.
