Beautiful polychrome and gilded carved wooden statue representing Saint George slaying the dragon.
It is a statue carved in the round where the Saint appears standing on the monster, he is dressed in armor, holding a spear in one hand and a targe in the other bitten by the dragon.
The monster or the dragon symbolizes evil and Saint George fights it with courage, we often find this Saint thus represented in the south of France and in particulier in Catalonia of which he is the patron saint.
However, he is a much loved and coveted Saint and his sculptures and statues are becoming rare. Beautiful original polychromy and gilding,
some polychromy gaps, particularly gaps in the back of the statue, have been restored.

A very beautiful 18th century sculpture in easy-to-place dimensions, with a saint with known apotropaic power.
