Charming Lorraine Terra Group Signed Cyfflé (1724-1806) Artist: After Paul-louis Cyf
Charming Lorraine clay group from the early 19th century, bearing an intaglio Cyfflé signature on the terrace, and made after a model by Paul-Louis Cyfflé.
The scene depicts a young boy approaching a seated shepherdess, whom he appears to be trying to console, the latter holding a dead bird in her hands. The composition, full of gentleness and restraint, perfectly illustrates the sentimental taste inherited from the late 18th century.
This subject is in the tradition of genre scenes inspired by Jean-Baptiste Greuze and François Boucher, very much in vogue in the production of the Lorraine lands.
Fine modeling is appreciated, particularly in the faces and the treatment of drapery, as is the lively, balanced composition. The lightly nuanced antique patina highlights the volumes and reinforces the overall character.
Condition: very good overall condition. Please note some very slight missing parts and wear, particularly on certain branching elements and reliefs, with no aesthetic impact.
