Bronze Bust Of Jupiter Talleyrand
Bust of Jupiter known as Jupiter ''Talleyrand'' in patinated bronzeBust executed after a work representing Jupiter and dates from the Hadrian era. In the 18th century, the work was present in the collection of Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, French statesman and diplomat, hence the name by extension of Jupiter "Talleyrand". Subsequently, the Louvre acquired it from this collector, on January 17, 1836The original head, representing Jupiter wearing a diadem with palmettes and lotus flowers, was executed in Rome. It fits, by the face, and more particularly by the work of the eyelids, the pointed beard and the parted lips, into an archaic tendency that specialists place at the time of the emperor of Hadrian, in the first half of the 2nd century AD. Patron of the arts and great admirer of Hellenic culture, it is therefore not surprising that mythological representations of this type flourished during this period. This 19th century bust reflects the enthusiasm for Antiquity and Greco-Roman culture. Free and insured shipping in mainland France.
