J.-m. Nattier (after) - Portrait Of The Duchess Of Chaulnes - Pastel
41 x 32 cm.
Pastel depicting Anne-Josèphe Bonnier de La Mosson (1718-1787), duchesse de Chaulnes, after the work of the same name painted in 1744 by Jean-Marc Nattier, now in the Musée du Louvre.
The work is executed on blue paper marouflaged on canvas, the whole mounted on its original stretcher. We note a small restoration located in the background of the work (top right), which in no way alters the subject.
This revival from the first half of the XIXᵉ century is part of the rediscovery of this artist, in his day a favorite of the ladies of the king's court. This portraitist of genius would enjoy a new surge of fame in the XIXᵉ century, among artists who drew inspiration from the works of the XVIIIᵉ century.
