The Great Elector Of Brandenburg XVIIe Engraving. XVIIIe Frame.
Artist: Antoine Masson
Frederick William of Hohenzollern (1620-1688), also known as the Great Elector, was the architect of the rise to power of what was to become Prussia under his grandson Frederick II.
This engraving was designed by Antoine Masson ( 1636-1700 ), ordinary engraver to the King and member of the Royal Academy of Painting.
This artist excelled in portraiture, and Versailles was his supplier of models.
An attractive gilded wooden frame was used to display it at the end of the XVIIIE, as it has never been opened since.
This explains why the inside of the glass is a little dirty.
