Pair Of Engravings Circa 1800: Mademoiselle Mars And Talma
Pair of engravings circa 1800 representing the portraits of the most famous actors of the Comédie Française of the time, Mademoiselle Mars and Talma. Drawn and engraved by various artists of the time but sold on Rue Saint Jacques in Paris in the same shop. It is mentioned that they are deposited with the management, certainly of the Comédie Française. Amusing detail these two immense artists had their mansions next to each other (with a number near) rue de la tour des Dames in the 9th arrondissement. Talla revolutionized the staging by the use of antique costumes, which shocked the spectators because they revealed the body. Mademoiselle Mars lived a free life as a kept woman, and managed her fortune herself. The engravings are in their original frames, with gold leaf. Some foxing otherwise good condition (they can be cleaned without difficulty) frames in excellent condition.
