Dodecahedron In Copper, Romanese Style - Gallo-roman - 19th Century
Elegant decorative object inspired by the mysterious Roman dodecahedrons of antiquity. This twelve-sided hollow geometric form is made of copper or copper alloy and has a beautiful dark brown patina with verdigris nuances, giving it an authentic, archaeological appearance.
The body is composed of twelve pentagonal faces pierced by circular openings of varying diameters. Each vertex is adorned with a spherical knob, characteristic of Roman dodecahedrons. The whole reveals handcrafted workmanship, with visible traces of tooling and a naturally aged surface.
Although inspired by original Roman examples dated to the 2nd to 4th centuries AD, this object appears to be a 19th-century achievement, probably conceived as an object of curiosity, collection or study, in the context of that era's strong infatuation with classical antiquities.
