Victorian Sitzendorf Cherub Centrepiece Vase, Germany, C.1884–1902
A richly ornamental German Sitzendorf porcelain centrepiece dating to the late 19th century, designed as a cracked-egg vase supported by three winged cherubs. The composition combines sculptural Rococo Revival modelling with dense applied floral decoration, creating a highly decorative statement piece for both traditional and eclectic interiors.
The glazed hard-paste porcelain body is adorned with applied roses, moulded leaves and trailing vines in soft pastel colours. The pierced upper rim imitates a broken eggshell, while the animated arrangement of the cherubs gives the piece a lively theatrical quality typical of fine Victorian decorative porcelain.
The underside bears the blue crossed-lines Sitzendorf mark used between 1884 and 1902 together with the impressed model number 354. During this period the factory expanded rapidly under the ownership of Alfred and Carl Wilhelm Voigt and became especially known for elaborate ornamental porcelain produced for the European luxury market.
With its sculptural silhouette, floral detailing and unusual egg form, the piece displays beautifully as a cabinet object or decorative centrepiece.
