A black silk ottoman cocktail dress in the taste of Paul Poiret, signed Melle Rosé, Rue St André, Avignon and dating from the 1910s. Dress in the style of Georges Lepape's 1911 publication "Les Choses" for Paul Poiret. Empire-line dress with high waist, short kimono sleeves and cream tulle plastron in point d'esprit with officer collar stapled at back. Double-row button front and smocked pleat work at the waist, sleeves and bottom of the dress with knotted passementerie bangs. Berthe appliquéd lace collar with reminder at the bottom of the skirt. The black silk ottoman with white selvedges visible inside was probably made by the Soieries Bonnet factory in Jujurieux. Cream silk pongee bodice lining with clawed waistband (stains on lining). The silk and tulle remain very solid. Very good condition. A dress to collect or wear.
