Jean-Baptiste Le Paon, born Jean-Baptiste
Louis Lepaon, was a French painter born March 15, 1738 in Paris and died May 27, 1785 d
in the same city. He began his artistic career in his youth thanks to an uncle who was
also a painter, and apprenticed with Francesco Casanova, a Venetian
battle painter. Initially a cavalry officer, he gave up his military career to devote himself to
painting until his death in 1785. His famous works include "The Prince of Nassau
hunting a jaguar" of 1784, currently on display at the Łazienki Palace in Warsaw.
