Léon Brard (caen 1830 - Tours 1902)
Vue de cité balnéaire en Normandie
Huile sur toile, 38 x 61 cm
L'ARTISTE
Native of Caen, Léon Brard moved to Tours in 1859. A disciple of Charles-Jean
Avisseau, he shares with Auguste François Chauvigné the fact that he was first a painter before
producing ceramics. He was influenced by 18th
century art and produced plates
patronymic or trompe l'oeil in the taste of the period. He also tried his hand at Hispano-Moorish and revolutionary
subjects. He is unusual in having combined
colored enamel techniques with pewter.
