Barthélémy (josef Bartholomeus) Vieillevoye (belgian, 1798 - 1855)
This masterfully Biedermeier-style portrait of two children from the de Thier family (according to the owner's caption) was executed in Liege in 1836 by the renowned Belgian painter Barthélemy (Josef Bartholomeus) Vieillevoye (1798-1855), a specialist in portraits, religious scenes and historical subjects.
Barthélemy Vieillevoye (1798 Verviers - 1855 Lüttich) studied at the Antwerp Academy, then in Paris. He directed the Lüttich Academy. His works are preserved in the museums of Antwerp and Lüttich, and in the churches of Saint-Gervais and Sainte-Pholie.
