Sunny Monastery Terrace On The Seaside By Eduard Ameseder (austrian 1856 - 1938)

Artist: Eduard Ameseder (autrichien 1856 - 1938)
This Impressionist painting depicting monks on a sunny seaside terrace was created in 1893 by the renowned Austrian painter Eduard Ameseder (1856 Czernowitz – 1938 Vienna). The son of engineer Theodor Ameseder, he attended secondary school at the Leutschau Gymnasium and the Pancsova College. After graduating, he enrolled at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Christian Griepenkerl (1876–1879) and Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels (1880–1886). He then continued his studies with Gustav Schönleber in Karlsruhe from 1887 to 1891. The following year, he spent time in Munich. In addition to his travels to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, Ameseder, originally from the northern Balkans, resided in Vienna from 1893 onward. He was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, with an interruption from 1900 to 1905, during which time he belonged to the Hagenbund, a newly founded association. He was also a corresponding member of the Styrian Visual Artists' Association. Ameseder painted primarily landscapes in an Impressionist style, and depictions of environments also form part of his work. He developed a personal technique in oil and tempera that gave his paintings great luminosity and remarkable depth of color through the application of translucent paint. He also occasionally used watercolor, gouache, pastel, and pen-and-ink drawing.
