Pair Of Cabriolet Bergères In The Louis XV Style.
Elegant pair of cabriolet bergères in the Louis XV style, resting on four cambered legs.
The frames, in molded and carved beech, feature an elegant original painted and rechamfered finish, whose slight wear from the passage of time brings great charm and a beautiful patina to the whole. The retracted whiplash arm brackets, directly inspired by 18th-century Parisian chairs, give these bergères a supple, particularly elegant line.
The finely exposed carvings in the beech are enhanced by this delicate painted and rechambered finish. The curved crosspieces, uprights and backrests are adorned with roses, flowers and stylized foliage, all in relief and still carved with great vigor, showing off the gouge work perfectly.
The seats are entirely upholstered in Pondichéry fabric by Casal, whose Indian decor elegantly revisits the spirit of the great printed fabrics of the 18th century, in a warm palette particularly suited to these seats. The ensemble is highlighted by a discreet matching braid.
The feather-filled cushions offer particularly pleasant comfort. The seats are in very good overall condition, perfectly stable and immediately usable, with no play in the assemblies.
This pair most likely comes from the André Mailfert establishments in Orleans, renowned for their quality interpretations of 17th and 18th century French furniture.
Founded by André Mailfert (1884-1943), in the first half of the twentieth century the Orléans firm developed an important production of seats and furniture inspired by French antique models. Other chairs from the same Paris apartment bore the famous salamander mark of the Mailfert workshops, reinforcing this probable attribution.
French work from the first half of the 20th century.
