Jaroslav Setelik studied with Liška at the School of Applied Arts, then at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts with Professor Ottenfeld at the dawn of the 20th century. Following this training, he traveled throughout Europe, settling for a few years in France, then in Italy for a longer period of study. His work focuses on landscape painting, including numerous monumental formats, as well as studies of the forests and mountains he encounters. During his stay in the Netherlands from 1921 to 1922, he produced 40 paintings to promote Dutch cities, commissioned by the government. Today, Setelik is best known for his paintings of Prague in all its forms and moods. At the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, he created, among other things, a series of watercolors of Prague, which he exhibited at the Topič Salon in Prague in 1932. He also occasionally devoted himself to mural painting and illustration, and published his drawings in newspapers in his favorite city. Setelik is represented in the collections of the National Gallery.
