Lucien Potronat - French Riviera, oil on canvas, 46x55 cm, signed lower right. Lucien Potronat, born in Paris on October 5, 1899, and died in Saint-Raphaël on November 3, 1973, was a French painter and watercolorist. At the end of the First World War, he was one of the exhibitors at the Paris Salon, where he sometimes used the pseudonym Jacques Warner. In the late 1930s, he settled on the French Riviera where he remained until the end of his life. Fascinated by the light and warmth of the region, Lucien Potronat captured it in his paintings, depicting the local coastline with whitewashed villas covered in bougainvillea, against the characteristic blue of the Mediterranean under an azure sky. He also painted dancers in 1926, some of which were exhibited at the 1933 Winter Salon, as well as other works including La Coulée, Hauts Fourneaux and L'Isle-sur-Serein, exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1941.
