Large Baroque medallion in polychrome terracotta depicting Saint Paul the Apostle, Italian workshop, early 18th century.
The saint is depicted in half-length portrait, with one hand on his heart and the other on a book; the inscription at the bottom reads "PAULE," a corruption of the Latin "Paulus." Paul of Tarsus, born Saul, was one of the first saints and martyrs of the Christian Church, the principal missionary of the Gospel of Jesus among the Greek and Roman pagans.
Of fine quality, the medallion retains its original polychrome.
Good condition, minor signs of age.
