Bravi - Large Italian Portrait Roma 1911
Elegant and important early 20th century Italian notable portrait, oil on oval canvas signed "Bravi Geppe" and located "Roma", dated 1911.
This work of fine presence depicts a bearded man dressed in a dark suit, treated with great academic sobriety in the spirit of Italian official portraits of the Belle Époque. The steady gaze, the finesse of the facial modelling and the delicate treatment of light testify to a true portraitist's skill.
The signature seems to relate to the Italian painter Giuseppe Bravi, active in Rome at the end of the 19th century and known for his portraits and religious settings. The work could have come from his studio or his artistic circle.
The painting is presented in its elegant original antique gilded frame, perfectly emphasizing the oval composition and the refined character of the whole. Some missing parts on the frame.
Very fine decorative presence for old home, cabinet, library or classic interior.
