"Italian School, Late 19th And 20th Centuries. Oil On Wood, "virgin And Child And St. John The Baptist""
Charming oil on panel depicting a religious scene full of tenderness: the Virgin Mary seated in the middle of nature, surrounded by the Infant Jesus and the child Saint John the Baptist. The gentle expression of the faces and the colorful draperies bear witness to a late Baroque influence, still very much alive in the Italian regional schools at the turn of the 19th century. The painting is presented in a fretted frame in carved and gilded wood, with a particularly decorative line, in the rococo style. On the reverse is the mention “1806”, without certainty as to its authenticity. The wooden panel seems to have been replaced or consolidated later, which was common to preserve or adapt old works. The style of the painting nevertheless remains consistent with a creation from the first half of the 19th century, early 20th century. Total dimensions with frame: 89 x 50 cm Technique: oil on wood Condition: very good, slightly patinated varnish. Frame: carved and gilded wood, 19th century Origin: Italy
