Toa was born in the town of Shibukawa, where his family specialized in Sosaku Kokeshi.He is the son of Son of SekigushiSansaku, a renowned master. ofof numerous awards, he received the Ministry of Internationalin 1978. Since then, he has won thethe Prime Minister's Award, as well as other distinctions. This is aa piece from the early days of his business, very vintage 70s. Laterhis styleornamentation would become rich in detail and pattern; sequins and gold.
Our doll features a "helmet" hairstyle, inspired by Buddha's spherical bun. Some art critics describe this doll as embodying the "beauty of silence".---------------------about kokeshis kokeshi appeared in the 1820s-40s (late edo era).Originally, they were made from scrap wood by craftsmen and peasants and sold to townspeople.They were toys for little girls, or offered as tokens of love or friendship; or symbolized the desire to have a healthy child.the doll is the result of a Shinto communion with nature (forest / wood / landscape).Their chignon is an evocation of Buddha.
