Antique Chinese articulated wooden doll, dating from the late Qing dynasty, mid to late 19th century.
This finely carved doll is constructed with a solid painted torso and articulated limbs, with joints at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees, allowing expressive positioning. The head is carved with stylised facial features, pierced ears, and incised hair, characteristic of Chinese folk carving of the period. The surface retains its original painted and lacquered finish, now beautifully mellowed to an olive-green tone on the torso, with a rich dark patina to the limbs and head.
The size, quality of carving, and expressive character suggest a piece intended for visual impact rather than mass export.
Height: 34 cm.
Good condition, with visible wear, rubbing, and small losses consistent with age and use. No evidence of later repainting.
A rare and characterful example of 19th-century Chinese folk art.
