Kokeshi Snow Coat - By Master Shido Shozan ( 1932-95) #71
Artist: Shido Shozan Japon ( 1932-95)
Wood, stamped under the base - circa 1970. 1.7 kg - a shock to the bun.
----- Shido-san liked to combine different types of wood to create dolls whose texture evoked trees. The model presented was named "Child in the Snow". It evokes the straw coats used in the countryside in winter (see end of slideshow). He sought modesty and humility. A small face emerges from the thick headdress. The Japanese regulate their behavior by reading the eyes of others. In this way, the doll conveys its serenity through this tiny face in the thick cloak. His work is exhibited at the Nuremberg Toy Museum.
