19th Century. In The Style Of Barbedienne. Portable Photofore
Artist: Barbedienne ( Dans Le Goût De)
Crossing a hallway at night in the 19th century was easier with a candlestick candleholder, to avoid draughts extinguishing the candle, or ka wax on the sleeve of the robe.
This candleholder consists of a chased bronze bobeche sur piedouche decorated with antique-style comedy masks, and a cherub on the push medallion.
Ink marks are present under the foot. The overall style and quality of workmanship is similar to that produced by the Barbedienne firm, but under Napoleon III Paris was teeming with foundrymen of equivalent calibre.
The glass is blown, for this purpose, in perfect condition.
This is a delightful object, quite uncommon in this luxurious presentation.
