1785. Engraving After Joseph Vernet. View Of Pausylipe, Near Naples
Artist: Peint J.vernet , Gravé Par Daudet
Beautiful in plano print ( full sheet 60 cm x 74 cm ) produced circa 1785 by Robert Daudet ( 1737-1824 ) after a painting by Joseph Vernet ( 1714-1789 ) depicting the village of Pausylipe ( Posillipo ) near Naples.
This marine is emblematic of Vernet's production, famous for having been commissioned by Louis XV to depict the great ports of France.
Pausylipe, in ancient Greece, was one of the magnificent sites hosting the villas of the Roman aristocracy during antiquity
Today, it's a district of Naples.
The remarkably fine engraving has a few spots and a few freckles ( cleanable without problem) but the paper remains in beautiful, accident-free condition.
It was framed at the end of the 19th century and has not moved from this frame since.
