Laid paper. Printed in color. Title in English and French below the image.
Philibert-Louis Debucourt specialized in multi-plate color prints, combining aquatint washes and line engraving.
Some of his works were satirical, as seen here but also in "La Promenade Publique" (The Public Promenade), another aquatint from 1792 depicting a crowd in the gardens of the Palais-Royal. Proof on laid paper printed by Chapuy in Paris, datable to 1787.
Sight size: 37 cm x 57 cm. I
t retains its original frame, a wide, high-quality molded frame of carved and gilded wood, 65 cm high by 83 cm long.
Good condition despite its age; the engraving is only slightly faded, with minimal abrasions. The mat shows traces of mold, some of which is likely on the glass. Originally framed, we did not wish to unframe it for a necessary internal cleaning (this can be done on request)
DEBUCOURT Philibert-Louis (1755-1832) He was the son-in-law of the famous sculptor Louis-Philippe Mouchy.
