Károly Ferenczy ( 1862 - 1917 ) The Most Beautiful Hungarian Ass Circa 1887 - 1889
Artist : Károly Ferenczy 1862 - 1917
Country : Hungary
Subject : presumed portrait of a femme de joie , peripatetician probably painted between Munich and Paris around 1885 - 1889, whose model I was able to find in a magazine of the period ( see photo )
Correspondence with the Magyar Nemzeti Museum on my search for the model : A reproduction of this work, dating from 1905, appears in a Hungarian art magazine entitled Művészet, page 377. Unfortunately, no information is provided as to the location of the original drawing, nor as to the identity of the model. Károly Ferenczy did not note the names of his occasional models.
* Provenance: The provenance of the work is attested by the label on the back and the inventory number of the gallery of the art historian and editorialist Szilard Vilmos (Maria Trevia 7, Budapest). This gallery was linked to his fraternal friendship with the world-renowned collector Jozsef Frankel, who together with Beni Ferengzy founded an art salon showcasing Hungarian painters in vogue at the time. Jozsef Frankel's gallery was located at 8, Maria Valeria Street.
