"James Ward (1769-1859) Title: Alinda Made In 1787 "
* Only the engraving by William Ward (1766-1826) was known. This famous engraving, called 'Alinda', was created in 1787. He was an engraver for the British royal family. ** The great Ward dynasty. 'Alinda' was probably painted by William Ward's younger brother, James Ward (1769-1859). James Ward's sister was Anna Ward, the wife of the famous British painter, George Morland (1763-1804). *** We only knew of the engraving 'of Alinda'; here is the painting, or the attribution of the work to James Ward around 1787 is more than likely. Painted with a vibrant, lively, and original touch in superb materials, where no error from the artist's nervous hand is detectable (see the X-rays of the painter's hand). *** Probably a historic discovery, though I unfortunately do not have access to the archives of British institutions in England, for example: the Yale Museum. Support: canvas, old canvas backing, but the paint is not crushed. Period: late 18th century. Condition: impeccable. Restoration: restoration confirmed (under Wood's lamp, the work is 97 percent original). Dimensions: 131 cm x 87 cm excluding frame. Frame: new, made with gold leaf. **** If you have any archive that would prove, through documentation, its relationship to James Ward regarding this work, a reward is assured. ***** Provenance: former private collection, Breda
