Large Hard-paste Porcelain Plate Hand-painted By Bernard. France 19th Century.
Artist: Bernard
The plate shows a scene of musketeers enjoying a feast at an inn.
Late 19th century / circa 1890-1905
France, Limoges or Paris.
The plate is broken in two and has undergone an old restoration.
The reverse bears a label from the firm:
"Au Vase Étrusque"
20 boulevard Malesherbes, Paris. This was a luxury business active at the end of the 19th century.
Framed in blackened and gilded wood. Bearing a framer's label:
E. Dosbourg Jeune 220, faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris circa 1900.
This label confirms an early Parisian framing, however the frame is slightly too large for the plate, so we think it was a late mounting.
Signature: Bernard, lower left.
Plate dimensions: 502×408x5mm
Frame dimensions: 682x585x60mm
