Pair Of Large Lidded Porcelain Vases By Royal Vienna, Napoleon III Period
Pair of large lidded porcelain vases by Royal Vienna, Napoleon III period
An impressive pair of lidded porcelain vases by Royal Vienna, made during the second half of the 19th century, under the Second Empire.
Baluster-shaped, these vases feature a sumptuous cobalt blue background enhanced by rich gilded decorations. Each main side is adorned with a large, finely hand-painted oval panel depicting scenes of figures dressed in ancient styles, in the neoclassical manner, framed by a green enameled border and delicate gilded friezes.
The side handles, richly molded and gilded, are topped with stylized chimera heads. The openwork necks and the lid knobs, also openwork, lend great elegance to the overall design. The square bases are decorated with gold motifs on a cobalt blue background, in perfect harmony with the rest of the composition.
Very fine craftsmanship, characteristic of Royal Vienna’s productions, renowned for the fineness of their porcelain and the quality of their painted decorations.
