Portrait Of Louise Abbema By Manuel Luque, Pen On Bristol Board
In February 1875, Luque was in Paris, living in the Latin Quarter. He was in contact with Pierre Véron, the editor of the Charivari and the Journal amusant : for Luque, this was his real debut as a cartoonist in France.France, and although he returned to live in the Spanish capital in1876, he regularly supplied Véron with drawings, while also publishing albums of caricatures in Spain. In 1879 and 1880, he painted the salonsof the Café de Fornos, with Daniel Perea, and those of the Café de la Iberia. Hecontinued his collaborations with Mundo Cómico, but also for Risa, La Filoxera, Madrid Cómico and Día de Moda.
In 1881, Luque moved permanently to Paris. Formore than twenty-five years, he supplied dozens of periodicals withdrawings, either portraits or fashion sketches.
Louise Abbema was a French painter. She painted, among others, the portrait of Sarah Bernhardt, with whom she began a long artistic and amorous relationship.
