"Greeting Card From Joseph Uzanne For 1906, Engraving By Poupart"
Joseph Omer Uzanne (1850-1937) was a French journalist and art critic, the older brother of Octave Uzanne and a member of the Hydropathes group of artists. Between December 1876 and June 1877, Joseph Uzanne wrote for the magazine Le Conseiller du bibliophile, where his brother Octave became editor-in-chief. After a first album published in 1891 by G. Richard, he directed and wrote, from 1894 to 1925, the albums of Contemporary Figures taken from the Mariani Album, published mainly by Henri Floury on behalf of Angelo Mariani. He and his brother Octave commissioned talented engravers such as Adolphe Lalauze, Henri Othon Brauer, Fernand Desmoulin, Evert van Muyden, etc., for the illustrations. Here we present a greeting card from Joseph Uzanne dated January 17, 1906, an allegory of Time in an Art Nouveau style created by Poupart. Handwritten signature by Poupart in the lower right corner.
