Farmyard In Ecouen (?), Oil On Wood By Paul Seignac
Artist: Paul Seignac, Bordeaux 1826- 1904
Paul Seignac became a student of Edouard Picot in Paris. He specialized in genre painting, particularly drawn to descriptions of rural scenes and paintings of children. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1849 until 1897. After living in Sarcelles, he arrived in Ecouen where he joined the colony of painters. He moved into a large house and had the motto: Labor inscribed on the facade. At 66, he became paralyzed and sold his home in Ecouen to the painter William Bouguereau, his son's teacher. Paul Seignac is still one of the most appreciated artists of the Ecouen School. Our work shows us a farmyard without a figure, unsigned. Beautiful harmony of this composition with a morning light. The panel is of English origin from Reeves & Son's. It is broken, a crack bead visible on the back and more slightly on the front.
