The Source, Oil On Paper By Louis Cabat
Artist: Louis Nicolas Cabat, Paris 1812-1893
French painter and engraver of the Barbizon School
Student of Camille Flers, Louis-Nicolas Cabat made his debut at the Salon of 1833. A member of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, he was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts de l'Institut de France in 1867, and became director of the Académie de France in Rome from 1879 to 1884.
This is a very fine study by Cabat, full of the sensitivity lacking in his finished landscapes.
Workshop stamp on verso.
