Rodolfo Olgiati (1887–1930). Swiss Alps
Artist: Rodolfo Olgiati
Rodolfo Olgiati (1887–1930) – Alpine Landscape, Presumably the Swiss AlpsRodolfo Olgiati (1887–1930), a great Swiss mountain painter. Oil on panel, signed “R. Olgiati” lower right.
A charming mountain village scene, enlivened by a few figures and dominated by majestic Alpine peaks. The luminous palette, thick and vibrant brushstrokes, and very free handling of the paint lend this work a particularly lively character.
The landscape appears to depict a village in the Swiss Alps, though this geographical attribution remains to be confirmed.
The reverse side retains an old label bearing the inscription “Paesello,” as well as a label from Kunsthandlung Einrahmungen Ed. Widmer, Basel, Untere Rebgasse 27, and various old annotations. These elements provide an interesting account of the work’s provenance and history.
A painting full of freshness, characteristic of a sensitive and colorful vision of the Alpine landscape from the first half of the 20th century.
