Reed (pennistetum Typhoideum), Pencil Drawing By Jean-françois Turpin (1775-1840)
Artist: Jean François Turpin, Vire 1775- Paris 1840
Pierre Jean François Turpin was a French botanist and illustrator. He is considered one of the greatest botanical illustrators of the Napoleonic era. Turpin is responsible for some of the most beautiful existing watercolors and illustrations of plants. Large and beautiful drawing, pencil on white paper, depicting Pennisetum typhus. Signed lower left: Turpin del. On the verso in the upper margin an inscription: M Delile n°108. (perhaps this refers to the botanist Raffeneau Delile). Laid down on heavy paper, numerous tears on the right margin, restored and which do not affect the drawing.
