Kilim Shahsaven - Persia. Circa 1880 - 1900. 177 X 169 Cm

The hues of this Shasaven kilim from Persia are stunning. They provide a valuable clue to the piece's date. The hues and the weave. The weave is extremely tight and fine. The piece is supple and surprisingly light. These two characteristics combine to place the production of this kilim at the very end of the 19th century.
At first glance, the purity, softness and luminosity of the vegetal hues are instantly seductive. Deep, dense indigo blue, turquoise, pale pink, dark brown and ecru. All in perfect harmony.
This is a fragment. Originally, the piece would have measured around 3 m in length. Due to age and wear, part of the piece was reduced in size to preserve the intact part and create a compact, almost square format.
Motifs in the form of stars and the eye against the evil eye associated with protection.
The composition in a succession of horizontal bands gives a graphic effect to this highly decorative piece.
