"The women of rural Maghrebian societies, both potters and weavers, are the custodians of a culture and know-how handed down from generation to generation, but which today tends to be lost with the rural exodus and economic development. The geometric patterns that adorn the pottery - and which are also found on the women's textiles and tattoos - carry a symbolic meaning that dates back to Neolithic times. The purity of form, simplicity and spontaneity of decoration give these objects a special charm. They bear witness to a remarkable harmony between function, form and decoration. Extract from the book published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition "Ideqqi : Art des Femmes Berbères" at the Musée Branly."
