The decoration is that of a polychrome rosette.
It originated from the imagination of Maurice-Paul Chevallier, who was active in Longwy from 1925 to 1972. A highly imaginative designer, he became artistic director in 1931. He created the famous Longwy enamel sphere vases, including the legendary Colonial Sphere with its lush jungle decoration, which won an award at the 1931 Paris Colonial Exhibition.
The richness of the colors and motifs of this oriental-inspired platter is equally striking ! Arabesques, scrolls, flowers, garlands of leaves, dots… Midnight blue, royal blue, carmine red, raspberry pink, saffron yellow, cream, and gold…
Some motifs, as well as the rim, are highlighted with 24-karat gold.
